DRUMMING EDUCATOR DESCRIPTION

Crayons & Culture is seeking a part-time drumming educator to lead a young men's drumming circle. Learning objectives include, but are not limited to:

TECHNIQUE

  • Read and write rhythmic notation
  • Play basic-to-advanced rudiments
  •  Develop knowledge of different techniques and be able to use and correct playing techniques

CULTURE

  • Learn the history of the drum and its uses throughout the Diaspora
  • Use the drum as a form of expression/communication
  • Build strong brotherhood and cultural identity

Drumming educator must be able to engage scholars in active, captivating and enriching 45-minute drum instruction. Must enhance lesson plans to educator’s passion and areas of expertise.

ABOUT YOU:


You are a professional drummer who understands the value in drumming circles, brotherhood and male role models.  You are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and know how to integrate the love of rhythm (in its many variations) as a tool of engagement.  Similar to an athletic coach, you are invested in your scholars holistic development in and outside of the drumming circle.  Character, integrity, discipline and mastery are principles that you exude in all walks of life.

Crayons & Culture is a progressive, cultural arts and learning center designed for children and communities to maximize their learning potential. We offer high quality immersion workshops (called “experiences”) such as, Languages of The Diaspora, Images of Us Integrated Arts Read Aloud, Tutoring With a Twist, Dancing To Mastery and much more! In addition to our immersion workshops, we host special events, and create the space for the local community to organize and build.
